The Great British Map of Marvellous Place Names claims to shed a light on some of the more titillating and bizarre labels given to some of the country's more obscure places.

Essex is no exception: from Balls Green, to Turkey Cock Lane, we've compiled a list of some of the more weird, funny and downright rude place names in our great county.

Many of you have made your own suggestions on our Facebook page.
