DRAMATIC scenes hit Brentwood last night as a massive blaze at a popular nightspot closed the High Street.

A total of 11 Essex fire crews tackled the huge fire at the Sugar Hut on Brentwood High Street just after 7.30pm last night as staff set up for the evening ahead.

The infamous hangout – where stars such as Danielle Lloyd, Jodie Marsh and premiership footballers have been spotted – was due to host a party for Brentwood starlet Pixie Lott, who was celebrating reaching number one in the singles chart.

Police closed the High Street while crews attended the blaze in the 500-year-old listed building, which became heavily smoke-logged.

Police and fire crews say an investigation is now being carried out.

Anyone else see that the sugar hut group has had its license for the sky bar in bas vegas revoked by basildon council/police for the same behaviour seen in brenwoods sugar hut? Lets hope it effects business enough that they decide to shut up shop in brentwood permanently. !!BRING BACK THE WHITE HART!!

The sugar hut group should have been forced to restore every inch of the building to how its meant to be and fined millions for their distruction of such a historic and important part of brentwoods history and heritage, when they were found guilty of breaching many planning laws to it, years ago. Instead they were given the lightest slap on the wrists and left to carry on as they please. Brentwood council, grow a spine and do as the good people of brentwood tell you (you know, your job), insist the bulding be restored to the white hart, ensure the high street never becomes pedestrianised (as thats where the revamp is clearly headed and would cut the throat of shops there) also most importantly overturn the planning permission for the william hunter way development (seeing as it does not meet its own planning remit and the town does not want or need it) and you never know the tories in brentwood may just avoid the total drudging they are due to get in the next local election, because of the above issues and many others. LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE OF BRENTWOOD AND GIVE US OUR TOWN BACK INSTEAD OF BUILDING US SOMEONE ELSE'S! !!BRING BACK THE WHITE HART!!

This Ali Saleem person, whoever he may be, looks like a not so clever distraction from the real issues here. Some contributors have fallen for it and allowed themselves to be sidetracked. Stop responding to this nutter who keeps on about mosques and ask yourselves how it could be that a 500 year old listed building could be burned down in the middle of Brentwood. \While you are at it you'd better hope it was properly insured otherwise the site could be sold off at just its land value for re-development as happened with the Olde Logge restaurant on Shenfield Common. You could also ask your councillors what measures they are going to take to ensure this sort of thing never happens again. Why not write to them directly as they seem quite selective as to what issues they choose to address vluntarily? My own suggestion would be that they stop fostering an environment in Brentwood which attracts the low life from far and wide (and near)!. Brentwood High street should not be turned into a Golden Mile. Nor should wider Brentwood itself be turned into a clone of many other nearby towns, of which we are all only too well aware. To those who wish to try and foster a Cafe Society I would think that it is not possible in Britain. In places like Italy and France where that exists, people do not drink to excess. they are civilised. Just look at the other item on this site of the man being held down over the police car along with two screaming girls in th e gutter. Does that look like a cafe society to you? Now, there is an application for chairs and tables outside the Litten Tree and yet we have only until tha same day that the Gazette came out and reported it to us, (Wednesday), to object. How's that for a democratic process? When it is approved we will be able to feel even more threatened as we walk past. But the owners of the Pub will be able to accommodate even more drinkers. And that is what they are just drinkers. Could anyone imagine them going there if all that was served was coffee? Brentwood Borough Council Would you not even consider a little bit giving us our town back?

Mr Broken. Please do not associate me with Mr HR. I have just come on here to argue my point, not argue with fools. If you have to duck from a flying shoe during your next trip into town, don't ask where it came from. You'll know!

This could be a blessing in disguise. I don't care how many people profess that the Sugar Hut is not chavvy, it still attracts the type of people that are happy to brawl in the high street at 2am. The police presence in the high street has increased alarmingly since the Sugar Hut opened, perhaps a coincidence but I have seen the dramas first hand. Perhaps if Brentwood had more backbone, this beautiful listed building would not have been ravaged and converted into a tacky club in the first place. The White Hart which stood before it wasn't the most popular pub in town but its courtyard was unequalled, who thought it would be a good idea to concrete over that beautiful space? Idiots.

But I am quite the fool, so I may be incorrect. I used to run a gang of Peeping Toms and I caught Saleem out last night when he logged in as HR. I was hanging off his window sill when he was using his PC. I only wanted to spy on his wife!

I'm thinking Ali and HR are the same person, how many people have a preoccupation with 'filfy dogs' and how many people over 7 years old spell filthy as 'filfy' as both Ali and HR do?
