A lorry driver has died after his vehicle which was loaded with vodka caught fire following a collision on the M25.

The 45-year-old driver was involved in a collision while his lorry was held in tailbacks as police cleared debris from the road ahead.

A spokesman for Essex Police said that officers tried to save him as the fire blazed but the heat was too intense.

It happened between junctions 27 and 28 close to Brentwood, at around 1am this morning.

Traffic was backed up when the accident occurred as officers were clearing up debris from an HGV tyre blowout.
