CHELMSFORD ABC youngster Joseph Molloy has been selected to make his debut for the Eastern Counties this weekend.
The 15-year-old Boswells School pupil has fought, and won, once before for Essex but received a call-up to a higher level last week after a series of impressive performances.
His current record stands at nine wins from 13 fights and he'll be hoping to add another victory this Saturday in Kent.
His father James, who is a level two ranked coach at the club, is proud of his achievements – he's the first boxer from the club to be called up to this level since David Moore last year.
"He's a quite lad and I know he'll get a bit twitchy beforehand," he said.
"He's been doing really well but he's fairly indifferent about it. He probably feels a bit of pressure on his shoulders."
Molloy boxes at between the 46/48kg weight with an orthodox style.
Club president Mick Hull added: "I am very proud of him because he came back from injury has had a few setbacks."
He had been training for up to six days a week recently, sometimes at the club in Rectory lane or otherwise pounding the Chelmsford streets or the running track at Melbourne Park.
Molloy won his most recent bout against the highly regarded Dagenham figher Connor McNicholas.
At the Berry Boys show in Laindon he was on a mission from the very first bell.
For the first two rounds it was the same pattern with Molloy making his opponent look quite ordinary.
The third round was closer as Molloy tired at the latter part of the contest but it was a job well done.
Also on the bill was Chelmsford's Lewis Meason who again was on the end of close majority loss to Alex Burke from Southend.
Next up for him is the Eastern Counties novice final on Saturday in Southend.
Shaun Gillan lost a very close contest to Jay Mair of Rayleigh by a majority decision.
Saturday night also saw the return DJ Moore back after damaging his hand. He narrowly lost out to Frank Hodden.
