Detectives inevstigating a rape in Southend have issued CCTV images of a man they say is a key witness.
A 21-year-old Grays woman was attacked on a grassy verge of the cliffs between Clifftown Parade and Southend seafront on Friday, May 11.
It happened after she met two men in the Talk nightclub, Lucy Road, and walked with them towards the high street shortly after 3am.
One of the men, who may have been called Cain or Kane, left the woman with the other man, who is a suspect in the investigation.
The witness was wearing a brown shirt and dark jeans and had a close-cut hairstyle with distinctive markings.
Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Simon Werrett, said: "Our previous appeals for the man believed to be Cain to come forward have so far failed.
"He really is a key witness which is why we are having to resort to issuing an image of him.
"We are looking to identify both men and we believe we can do so once we speak to him.
"I would urge the man in the CCTV image or anyone who recognises him to contact us.
"If they don’t want to speak to us, then they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
"We have to identify the man responsible for this attack."
The suspect is described as white, aged in his mid-20s, has short dark hair, is of average build and was wearing a black T-shirt at the time.
