ATHLETICS fans desperate to attend Chelmsford's Olympics party have been handed a lifeline after the council announced an extra batch of highly sought-after tickets will be allocated.
All 11,000 free tickets to the Hylands Park event in July were snapped up in an hour when they went up in March.
Following the huge demand for the event, called Sparks Will Fly, a further 650 tickets will be made available through a second ballot.
"I know that there were many residents across the county that were disappointed to not get tickets," said Cllr Jeremy Lucas, Essex County Council's cabinet member for culture.
"It is great that they will now have a second chance to do so."
Tickets for the event will go to an online ballot system from tomorrow (Friday) until midnight on Tuesday, June 19.
