BILLERICAY Town have signed promising teenage midfielder Charlie Allen on dual registration from Dagenham & Redbridge.
And he was set to go straight into the Blues' squad for last night's Ryman League Premier Division home clash with Carshalton Athletic.
Allen, 19 this week, is the son of former West Ham United and QPR midfielder Martin 'Mad Dog' Allen who has gone on to manage several clubs, including Barnet and more recently Cheltenham Town.
Blues' manager Craig Edwards said Allen junior comes to New Lodge with a strong recommendation from Daggers' manager John Still, who is about to put the promising central midfielder on contract.
"He clearly has a good pedigree and is highly thought of by John Still," said Edwards. "He's a big, strong lad like his father and I'm sure he will give us something extra in midfield as we continue to battle for a play-off place.
"I've seen him play and have been impressed so I know what he can do."
Last night's squad was set to miss two key players – Greg Oates and Micah Hyde.
"Both picked up knocks in our 1-0 home win over Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday, but I'm hopeful they will have recovered in time for our trip to play Maidstone United on Saturday," Edwards revealed.
Before last night's league games the Blues sat fifth in the table and remain on track to make the play-offs.
"We now need to keep our run going and this Saturday's game at Maidstone won't be easy – they are bottom of the league and fighting for their lives," said Edwards. "We certainly don't want a repeat of the Hastings performance."
Town have also signed midfielder/ forward Taurean Roberts whose last club was Concord Rangers.
