Here's Darryl Webber (@HoracePecksniff to our Twitter followers) with 10 things to do around Essex this July weekend

1 Raise your glasses! The Chelmsford Summer Beer & Cider Festival is on until Saturday

offering more than 130 real ales, 150 or more ciders and perries plus dozens of Belgian foods. There are plenty of food stalls to soak up the alcohol and live music each night while Saturday afternoon is family friendly with a fun fair and an amateur radio shack. Open from noon until 11pm with free entry before 5.30pm.

2 By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes… Macbeth comes to Hylands House, Chelmsford, Chelmsford, on Friday, a great setting for one of Shakespeare’s most bloody and dark plays. Staged by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men and featuring an all male cast, the play starts at 7.30pm and you’re encouraged to bring along a picnic.

3 Fledgling naturalists should get along to Danbury Country Park this Saturday morning for the Young Rangers Club at 9.30am. Aimed at 10-16-year-olds with an interest in, it’s a chance for some hands on conservation action in the park which might see you making a bird feed station or a winter hibernation habitat.

4 Bobby Davro is coming to Cliffs Pavilion for one night only on Saturday, promising a night of old fashioned variety with music, comedy and stories. Star of TV and stage, Bobby is bringing along special guests Triple Cream, Josh Dubovie and Johnnie Clark.

5 The boys are back in town. Well, sort of. Tribute act Limehouse Lizzy are regarded as one of the best in the business and they’re coming to Colchester Arts

Centre on Friday night to play Phil Lynott and co’s greatest tunes.

6 The big family film this week

is Ice Age 4: Continental Drift 3D, following the further animated adventures of Manny the mammoth, Diego the sabre-toothed tiger and Sid the sloth as they find themselves cast adrift from their frozen paradise and facing attacks from a band of pirates led by a prehistoric ape!

7 The Kelvedon Free Festival was cancelled this year but its spirit lives on in the form of a special all-dayer organised by Essex Rocks and the Big Lick DJs at the Judge & Jury in Colchester this Saturday from 4pm. Some great local bands are playing, including Hoof! Electra and The Jellycats with money raised going towards making sure the festival happens next year.

8 Medical mishaps and misadventures are the order of the day in Doctor In The House at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester up to Saturday. The farce about an accident prone medical student stars Joe Pasquale and Robert Powell and has already gone down a treat in Chelmsford and Southend.

9 The creative talent of schoolchildren from across Essex is on display at High Chelmer shopping centre in Chelmsford at the moment. The art showcase features paintings, photography, film and sculpture by pupils from 10 schools and is on until Wednesday, July 18

10 Round off your weekend with a laugh courtesy of The Comedy Club with their latest Uncut night at the Bay Horse, Chelmsford on Sunday featuring some of the best up-and-coming comedians around. The giggles start at 7.45pm.
